Humble Beginnings
Began learning Karate basics during my childhood days from which ever book/magazine came my way as my family was not financially strong to enroll me in a Karate class.
My main purpose was very clear – To Master Self defence skills for Self-protection.
Before joining Karate, I never had any intention of becoming a Black Belt, but, rather to be well-acquainted of defending myself if the need arose. Having this mind-set, I focused on hardcore training not belt promotions.
1989: Finally I managed to join a Karate class and by that time was quiet familiar with the terminology and basics of the Japanese Art known as Karate-do Shito-Ryu.
Through constant sincere and dedicated training, I progressed rapidly, developing a power-packed confidence for defending myself, it was something I lacked before I started my actual rigorous training of Karate!
My Black Belt Promotion
1992 : After progressing through various multi-coloured belt ranks, I was finally elated to the coveted rank of Black Belt after a gruelling exam.
Very shortly, I cross- trained in Judo as per my Karate Master’s advice.
Those days hardly any Karate class taught break falls as Karate was taught on marble floors without mats so to learn break-falls, throws and ground-work, a Judo class was the best bet.
Having a strong Karate background, I quickly learnt the break- falls, joint-locks, throws, ground-work concepts of Judo.
To be the best I also joined a Gym at a local YMCA to supplement my Karate & Judo training.
One day my Karate Master told me to attend a 3-Day Karate Referee Training Seminar, but, I wasn’t keen to become a Referee and waste time officiating tournaments!!! I was to do Real Karate, not the watered-down sports version, my main priority was self-defence Not Sport!
Neither did I ever aspire to be a Karate champion of the ring and another dead victim on the concrete pavement.
However, I obeyed my Master and attended that Referee Seminar.
After the Referee Training Seminar camp my Karate Master got hooked on sports Karate, this I couldn’t digest so, I explained him my point of view and politely cleared myself, but, when he insisted that the future of Karate is in tournaments, I left him to do practice the Original Karate, as a full-fledged hardcore combat system of No-Rule Bare-Knuckle Self defence – nothing else!
As previously, I still remember and adhere to the words of the great Japanese Swordsman Master Miyamoto Mushashi who wrote: “The way you practice is the way you will react in a real fight”.
The Journey of Self Discovery
After having some meaningful experiences in various other Karate styles, Judo, San Shou Kung fu and Hakkoryu Jujutsu, I observed the Art of Karate was being marketed as a competitive sport, since my perceptions about this Art were as its original viewpoint.
I started conducting Women’s Self Defence Workshops in 1998 with various NGOs and similar organizations.
Thus working towards women’s well-being, self development, women’s empowerment & safety.
Transformation
After conducting some Self-defence Workshops I quickly realize and understand that:
- To learn Self-defence, one need not spend years and dedicate one's entire lifetime.
- One need not learn complicated techniques, but, rather simple ones that can be easily understood and quickly mastered.
- Need not follow a traditional martial art syllabus modulated in the 1920s.
- Need not rack ones brains remembering Japanese/Chinese glossary neither sacrifice blood and tears to achieve a Black Belt.
- Becoming a Black Belt/National Champion has nothing to do with Self-defence.
- Need not bother about age, gender, strength, stamina, flexibility, height, weight, etc.
Then what’s required you might wonder?
My answer is a willing mind. Remember Self Defence is 90% Psychological and 10% Physical.
During a quarrel one requires Brains & Guts not Muscles!!!!
Cruelty of a Real Attack
1998: Based on these realities and facts, after much of thought-provoking ideas I was solely obsessed with the Truth of Actual fighting phase and how to -defend oneself from the brutality of a real fight.
The tragic incident of a young girl traveling by train to attend college where a drunken thief tried to snatch her purse.
When she opposed him, the thief threw her out of the train. The girl was screaming in pain on the tracks but nobody had the audacity to help her.
After some time, the police got the news and took her to hospital, but by the time both her legs had become numb and damaged.
Inspite of this tragedy, she’s a self-made women with a positive outlook facing the world with confidence.
Many social institutions came forward to help her.
I believe that only if ladies who stood by staring at the girl had tried to help her when the despicable thief attacked, today the girl would have had both her legs safe.
Sadly, the girl could not protect herself.
Hence, it’s very essential for women to be prepared to defend themselves whenever required.
Every woman should learn self defence to protect oneself.
The rate at which the population is increasing, it is not possible for the police to protect citizens all the time.
Learning self defence skills will help not only in protecting ourselves, but also help in protecting other women in threatening situations.
The above mentioned incident had a profound effect on my mind, hence I soon realized the importance of devising an exclusive Realistic Self-defence Concept for Women.
A defensive approach that would be effective for protecting oneself even against stronger attackers using verbal communication, psychological strategies and physical tactics.
Unleashing the Founder of a Practical Self Defence System
In those days the phrase ‘Self defence’ meant “Judo/Karaata”, it wasn’t taken seriously such as nowadays.
When I used to approach Corporate firms, HR & Admins were apprehensive in allowing me to conduct a Self-defence Workshop at their company premises for fear of injuries to their staff.
Now days self defence in Corporate firms have became a common activity.
2002 – I founded my Self-defence method coining its name as Combat Tactical Systems, which is popularly known as CTS Self Defence, using my vast expertise and innovative ideas, I formulated a practical system of self-defence that could be easily learnt in a short time by anyone.
Became a Published Author
In 2004, Mr. Khaire became a published author of a Self-defence book titled “Every Woman’s Survival Manual” Published by Jaico Publishing House.
Which was later translated and published in Marathi as “Stree Ani Swarakshan”.
Both the books received a very positive response all over.
